Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) have been hailed for rescuing a lone accident victim abandoned by motorists during a heavy downpour along the Nassarawa Eggon–Akwanga Road in Nasarawa State.
The incident occurred at about 5:12pm on May 27, 2026, when a Black Toyota Camry with registration number ABC-327-MQ reportedly lost control and crashed during the rainstorm.
The impact of the crash allegedly flung the driver, identified as Suleiman Hamidu, popularly known as “Durbi,” out of the vehicle, leaving him severely injured and lying helpless in his own blood by the roadside.
Eyewitnesses said several vehicles reportedly drove past the scene without stopping to assist the victim despite the dangerous weather condition.
However, a team of police officers attached to the NPF National Cybercrime Centre, who were returning to Abuja from an official assignment in Otukpo, Benue State, stopped at the scene and immediately swung into action.
The team, led by CSP Ayuba Nehemiah, reportedly braved the heavy rain and difficult conditions to rescue the injured man.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper revealed that the officers personally arranged for a Keke NAPEP to evacuate the victim to the General Hospital, Nassarawa Eggon, for urgent medical attention.
On arrival at the hospital, CSP Ayuba Nehemiah reportedly identified himself to medical personnel and paid from his personal pocket for the victim’s emergency treatment to ensure doctors commenced immediate intervention.
The police officer also contacted the Divisional Police Officer of Nassarawa Eggon Division, Ashi Musa, to ensure proper police support, while the Federal Road Safety Corps was alerted to deploy personnel for traffic management and accident control along the rain-soaked highway.
The officers further traced and contacted the victim’s daughter, Aisha Nana, informing the family about the unfortunate incident and his medical condition.
As of the time of filing this report, the victim was said to be stable and responding to treatment.
The development has since sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians describing the action of the officers as a rare display of humanity, compassion and service beyond the call of duty.
