Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged statement directing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” supporters of the Accord Party.
Adeleke made the demand on Tuesday at an emergency press briefing in Osogbo, the state capital, as political tensions escalate ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The governor accused the senator representing Osun East of making a dangerous remark capable of inflaming violence and threatening the safety of political opponents ahead of the poll.
Adeleke urged the police to immediately investigate the alleged statement and take appropriate action against Fadahunsi, stressing that no individual should be allowed to make comments capable of triggering violence during an already sensitive electoral period.
The demand comes amid heightened political activities across the state, with the major political parties intensifying their campaigns and mobilising supporters ahead of the election.
Adeleke’s call has further raised the stakes in the final days of the election, putting the spotlight on the security agencies to ensure that political rhetoric does not translate into violence before, during or after Saturday’s poll.
