Fresh allegations of corruption have emerged over the implementation of a Federal Government-funded erosion control project in Ondo State, following claims that ₦45.5 million was paid to a contractor despite no visible work at the project site.
The project, located at Omi Atan along Fanibi Road in Akure, was awarded to EDDYMENCO NIG LTD, with the contractor reportedly receiving the contract sum in two tranches in September and December 2025.
However, findings by project monitors indicate that the erosion control project has not been executed despite the reported disbursement of the funds.
According to the report, a recent inspection of the site revealed no construction activities, heavy equipment or workers, raising concerns that the contractor may not have been mobilised to commence the project.
The alleged abandonment has sparked questions over the utilisation of public funds earmarked for critical infrastructure aimed at addressing erosion challenges in the area.
Concerned monitors have also mobilised members of the local landlords’ association, urging them to take ownership of the project by demanding accountability from both the contractor and the implementing agency, the Federal Ministry of Environment.
The residents were encouraged to seek full disclosure of the project’s status, implementation timeline and expenditure, amid growing calls for transparency in the execution of public contracts.
The latest revelation adds to increasing concerns over the abandonment of government-funded projects across the country, with stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged diversion of funds and appropriate sanctions against anyone found culpable.
