The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has returned Nentawe Yilwatda and Ajibola Basiru as National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, in a consensus-driven outcome at its fourth elective national convention in Abuja.

The duo were affirmed on Friday at the Eagle Square convention, where the partyโ€™s election committee announced their emergence alongside other officials returned unopposed, signalling a tightly coordinated internal process.

Their return follows the partyโ€™s decision to retain its existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee (NWC) positions, a move earlier confirmed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. He had urged aspirants to strictly comply with the zoning formula as outlined in the partyโ€™s 2026 schedule of activities.

With the zoning structure firmly in place, both Yilwatda and Basiru faced no opposition, paving the way for a smooth and controversy-free affirmation.

The high-powered convention, themed โ€œUnity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,โ€ drew top figures across the political spectrum, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

The event was organised by a planning committee co-chaired by former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim.

Providing insight into the scale of the gathering, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that no fewer than 8,453 delegates participated in the convention.
