APC Refutes Allegations of Involvement in Ogbe Quarters Violence in Edo State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong denial of any involvement of its members in the violent clashes that erupted at Ogbe quarters in Benin City, Edo State. The party also rejected claims that its members were connected to a brutal motor park conflict, captured in a viral video showing a man allegedly shot on Sunday morning.

Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie, the APC State Publicity Secretary, released a statement stressing that neither the party nor the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, sanctioned any actions leading to the unrest.

“It must be stated unequivocally that APC is not aware of any alleged actions or conspiracies, nor did it authorise any member to engage in activities that contravene established norms,” Igbinigie said.

Igbinigie clarified that until the formal handover of power on November 12, 2024, the incoming administration remains uninvolved in governance matters. “An incoming administration or government cannot interfere in governance prior to the official transfer of power. In this case, that’s until the 12th of November, 2024,” he added.

The APC described the accusations as “bogus” and accused unnamed individuals of attempting to tarnish the party’s and Governor-elect’s image.

“These allegations are the handiwork of mischief makers determined to destroy the respected reputation of our party and the Distinguished Governor-elect,” the statement read.

In response, the APC has called for a full police investigation to uncover the perpetrators behind the violence and dismiss the unsubstantiated allegations. The party reaffirmed its stance against criminal activities in Edo State, urging law enforcement to pursue those responsible.

“The APC detests criminality and calls on the police to thoroughly investigate these baseless accusations and bring the true culprits to justice,” Igbinigie concluded.
