In a bold move, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Edo State, Jarret Tenebe, has sent a stern message to Governor Godwin Obaseki, indicating that the upcoming September 21st governorship election in Edo State will not follow the usual routine.

Addressing reporters at the party secretariat in Benin, Tenebe emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair electoral process, citing concerns over events at the State House of Assembly last year.

“The next election would not be business as usual. We would do everything to ensure the election is free and fair,” he declared.

Discussing the party’s upcoming governorship primary election, Tenebe highlighted the APC’s dedication to the rule of law, promising a transparent process that will yield a credible candidate.

Originally having 29 aspirants for the governorship slot, the APC faced challenges with the high number of contenders. Consequently, the National Leadership advised the party to reduce the number, potentially opting for a consensus candidate.

Tenebe revealed that a committee, led by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, was formed to trim down the aspirants based on criteria such as previous election performance. The committee successfully narrowed down the list to four names after thorough screening.

Clarifying misconceptions, Tenebe asserted that figures like ex-Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Senator representing Edo North had no interactions with the committee. The committee’s decisions caused a stir among aspirants, prompting the National Leadership to intervene, directing all aspirants to purchase forms and participate in the primaries.
