Timi Erewaju, commonly known as ‘Apostle’, founder of Blaze of Love Ministry, has gone into hiding following a series of serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving female members of his congregation. Erewaju, who established the church in Ekosodi, Benin City, and later expanded to Asaba, is accused of coercing members into sexual relations both before and after his marriage three years ago.

Several victims, who have chosen to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the allegations, claim that Erewaju manipulated them into engaging in sexual acts, with some even suggesting that he used charms to control them. One victim’s parent recently shared their experience with Newsmen, revealing that their daughter had chosen to stay in Benin after graduating, turning down a job opportunity in Abuja. It was only later that the family discovered the daughter’s involvement with the church, and the possibility that she had been under the Apostle’s influence.

“I never imagined that our daughter had been charmed by him,” said the mother, who asked to remain unnamed for fear of further social stigma.

In response to the mounting accusations, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has officially removed Blaze of Love Ministry from its list of registered churches. The church has been shut down, and many members are left fearing the repercussions of speaking out, with some expressing concerns over the Apostle’s significant influence within the community.

A source close to the case revealed that many of the victims are reluctant to seek justice, intimidated by the perceived power of Erewaju, whose reputation had once been that of a well-respected religious leader.
