Former Super Eagles captain and Nigerian football icon, Ahmed Musa OON, MON, has thrown his weight behind the aspiration of the Edo State Football Association Chairman, Fred Newton Erhunwunse, to become a member of the Executive Board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Musa, who has a strong connection to Edo State through his mother, described himself as an integral part of the Edo family and expressed his deep appreciation for the tremendous work being done by the Edo State Football Association under the leadership of Fred Newton Erhunwunse.
According to the football star, he has closely followed and appreciates the chairman’s efforts towards the growth and development of football in Edo State since he assumed office. He commended the leadership of the Edo FA for its commitment to grassroots football development, youth empowerment and the creation of opportunities for young football talents across the state.
“I am part of Edo State because my mother is from Edo, and I have always considered Edo a very important part of me. I love and appreciate what the Edo State Football Association Chairman, Fred Newton Erhunwunse, has been doing since he came on board,” Musa said.
The former Super Eagles captain further pledged his full support for Erhunmwunse’s NFF Board Membership aspiration, stressing that he is prepared to use his influence and network to rally the necessary support for the Edo FA chairman ahead of the election.
Musa expressed confidence that Erhunmwunse’s experience, leadership qualities and understanding of football administration would enable him to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of Nigerian football if elected to the NFF Executive Board.
He therefore called on football stakeholders to support the aspiration, emphasizing the need for experienced and committed administrators who can contribute positively to the future of the game in Nigeria.
With the NFF Elective Congress scheduled for September 27, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Ahmed Musa’s endorsement represents a significant show of support for Fred Newton Erhunwunse as he seeks to represent the South-South Zone on the NFF Executive Board.
Musa reaffirmed his commitment to backing the Edo FA chairman throughout the process and ensuring that he receives the necessary support to achieve his ambition and ultimately contribute his quota to the growth, progress and development of Nigerian football.
