President Tinubu’s administration has made sweeping changes to Nigeria’s federal ministries, announcing the dissolution of both the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development.

The decisions, reached during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, October 23, in Abuja, signal a significant shift in the governance structure.

A new Ministry of Regional Development will be established to manage all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North East Development Commission (NEDC), North West Development Commission, and South West Development Commission.

This consolidation aims to streamline regional governance and foster more coordinated development efforts across Nigeria.

In addition, the Ministry of Sports Development has been dissolved, with its functions now transferred to the National Sports Commission. This change is designed to strengthen sports administration and provide a more focused approach to developing the nation’s sporting talent and infrastructure.

Further restructuring was approved, with the Ministry of Tourism merging with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

This merger is expected to boost the promotion of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and the creative economy, aligning them under a single umbrella for greater synergy in policy implementation.
