Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has officially renamed the institution formerly known as Edo State University, Uzairue, to Edo University, Iyamho.
The announcement was made through a statement issued on Monday in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor. A copy of which was made available to Uptown Press. The statement confirmed that the name change would take immediate effect, with all official documents and records reflecting the new designation.
“It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the change of the name of ‘Edo State University, Uzairue,’ to now be known as ‘Edo University, Iyamho’ with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The renaming is expected to further enhance the university’s visibility and recognition, aligning it with its geographic location in Iyamho. This change marks another step in the Governor’s vision to elevate the status of educational institutions in the State and create stronger ties to the local communities.
