The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Testimony Parish, located in Elerumoke, Egbeda, Iyana Ajia, in Oyo State, has been thrown into distress after thieves made away with two cows intended for the church’s Adult Harvest Thanksgiving Service.
The theft, which occurred last Saturday night, has prompted members of the parish to resort to prayer and fasting, seeking divine intervention for the recovery of the animals.
The cows, valued at approximately ₦3.8 million, were to play a central role in the Church’s annual celebration scheduled for Sunday, November 17, 2024.
Speaking on the incident, the church’s Shepherd-in-Charge, Prophet Rotimi Agunbiade Temitope, expressed shock and disappointment. “The theft is deeply upsetting. These cows were part of our preparations for a significant event. We are now trusting God to help us retrieve them,” he said.
A leader of the church, Oluso Ayo, also confirmed the incident, noting that the cows were stolen from the church premises during the night. “The cows were tethered securely, but the thieves untied them and led them away. We found footprints of both the cows and the thieves, but their destination remains unknown. This kind of incident has reportedly happened in the area before, but this is the first time it’s affected our church,” Ayo explained.
The church’s organising committee for the event was left stunned by the development. However, the congregation has taken to social media and local networks to raise awareness about the stolen animals. In a post shared on their X (formerly Twitter) account, the church wrote:
“Hallelujah. Two missing cows: Dear Celestials and the general public, these two huge cows were stolen from the church premises. We solicit your prayers and any useful information for their recovery.”
Despite the setback, preparations for the harvest service are on-going, with members maintaining faith that the stolen animals will be recovered in time. Local authorities have also been notified about the incident, and investigations are underway.
“We believe in the power of prayer and unity,” said Ayo. “God will surely intervene, and we are hopeful for a positive outcome.”
