Obaseki in trouble as gov Okpebholo Sets Up 14-Member Panel to Audit Edo’s Assets and Liabilities

In line with his mandate to promote transparency and accountability, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has established a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to review the tenure of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the committee’s mandate includes assessing the State’s assets and liabilities under the Obaseki administration. Governor Okpebholo will formally inaugurate the panel on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.

The committee comprises prominent figures from Edo State, with Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe as Chairman and Anslem Ojezua as Deputy Chairman.

Other members include Prince Kassim Afegbua, Hon. Patrick Ikhariale, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, Hon. Patrick Idiake, Hon. Rasaq Bello-Osagie, Mr. Fredrick Unopah, Frank Osumuede Edebor Esq (Secretary), Mrs. Abdallah Eugenia, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, Pharm. Kenny Okojie, Mrs. Lyndsey Tes-Sorae, and Hon. Abass Braimoh.

The government emphasised that the committee’s creation aligns with Governor Okpebholo’s campaign pledge to instil probity and strengthen governance.

“Despite previous calls for a comprehensive inventory of state assets and liabilities, the information provided by the last administration was inadequate. The committee’s work is essential to chart a new course for Edo State’s development,” the statement noted.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 PM and is expected to underscore the administration’s commitment to fostering accountability and enhancing governance structures in the State.
