A journey to political duty ended in tragedy on Wednesday as three youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State were killed in a fatal auto crash while heading to Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the party’s North Central Zonal Congress.
The victims—Hon. Anawo Benjamin (Orokam Ward 3), Hon. Ogbe Enemari (Ai-oono Ward 3), and Hon. Abraham Enenche (Olachagbaha Ward)—reportedly died on the spot following the accident along the Makurdi–Lafia road.
Several other members of the delegation sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment, further compounding the grief within the party.
The tragic incident has cast a dark cloud over the APC in Benue State, with leaders and members mourning the sudden loss of young grassroots mobilisers said to be deeply committed to the party’s growth.
Reacting, the 2023 APC Benue South Senatorial candidate, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, described the development as heartbreaking, noting that the deceased were loyal party faithful whose contributions at the grassroots level would be sorely missed.
He extended condolences to the bereaved families and the APC family in Ogbadibo and across Benue State, praying for strength and comfort in the face of the devastating loss. Onjeh also called for unity among party members during the difficult period and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
In a similar vein, the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, described the incident as traumatic and devastating, particularly as multiple lives were lost from the same local government area.
He sympathised with the people of Ogbadibo, as well as the families, friends, and political associates of the deceased, praying for the repose of their souls and divine comfort for those left behind, while also wishing the injured a quick recovery.
