In a bid to enforce COVID-19 prevention regulations in the Council, a Mobile Court on Covid-19 sitting in the Conference hall at the Council Secretariat, Etsako West Local Government Area, on 24th February, 2021, prosecuted several persons for breaching the Covid-19 prevention protocols established by the government to curtail the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, in line with the Edo State Infectious Diseases (Emergency and Prevention) Regulations, 2020, enacted by the state government.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Council, Yusuf Nurudeen explains that, the presiding Magistrate of Etsako West Covid-19 Mobile Court, E. L. Igodan, Chief Magistrate attached to Magistrate Court II, Auchi, administered judgment on the offenders who were found around Auchi Magisterial District and other locations within the local government for failing to wear their facemasks in public places.
The violators all pleaded guilty to the offence. The court, upon the plea of liable by the offenders, however gave a caution verdict and discharged them, being a debut of the Mobile Court, stating that if anyone is further found guilty in breach of the Covid-19 protocols in other occasions, they shall be liable to pay a fine.
