Coronavirus: Edo LG Chairman intensifies community sensitization to curtail the spread of pandemic

The Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council of Edo State, Hon. (Alhaji) Imonofi Inusa on Wednesday mobilised the Council workers on a sensitization programme to enlightened the residents of the community on the need to protect themselves from the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic currently ravaging the world and to bring an end to the spread of the virus which as at January, 2021 has killed no fewer than 127 persons in Edo State.

The Chairman who visited markets, religious centres in the community demonstrated to all present how to use facemask and other non-pharmaceutical protocols for the prevention of the disease while charging them to adhere strictly to the protocol to save their lives.

The Council Boss told Journalists: ” As representatives of the people, our immediate responsibility is to educate the people on the danger posed by the Coronavirus pandemic in order to save lives.”

While distributing Facemasks to the residents, he pledged continued sensitisation programmes on radio and television stations.

Briefing journalists on the security situation at the Council, he said that Etsako West Local Government has enjoyed relative peace in the last couple of months adding that adequate security mechanism has been put in place to tackle crime in the Local Government in partnership with relevant security agencies.

“In Etsako West Local Government Area, we have continue to hold regular Peace and Security meetings where we invite all the security agencies, including the vigilante groups as well as traditional rulers and stakeholders considered relevant in maintaining peace and security in the Local Government. At such meetings, we xray the entire Local Government Area and address all issues we identify as capable of leading to any breach of peace.”

The Council Boss stated that such partnership between security agencies and vigilante in tackling crime has yielded successes which led to the recent arrest of some notorious kidnappers in the Local Government.

“The most recent successs of the vigilante is the arrest of kidnappers who appear to have come from Onitsha to Jattu community to carry out a kidnap operation. Upon a tipoff, the Jattu vigilante arrested them and handed over to the Nigeria Police.”

He said the major security challenge at the Council remains the activities of herdsmen who carried out violent attacks on farmers.
