Final year Students of Delta state polytechnic OGWASHI UKU, on Wednesday 24th March 2021 staged a peaceful protest calling for the school management to remove the additional #7,000 Microsoft certification programme fee added to their tuition fees.
This blog learnt that, the school management had earlier announced a compulsory course “Computer certification programme” for all NDII and HNDII final year students with the point that the programme is meant to enhance students proficiency in computer application, marketing and the registration is #7,000 which has been added to their school fees.
Student Union government (SUG) and National association of Delta state students (Nadeltsu) executives have met with the school management on behalf of the students on several occasions to remove the #7,000 ICT registration fee but to no avail as this prompt them to shut down the school this morning thereby calling for immediate removal of the fee.
Some of the students who spoke to newsmen described the registration fees as “Burden” on them. “We are still looking for how how to pay our school fees and the school management suddenly introduced a course mandating us to register for it with #7,000 this is not fair at all we will not accept it ” the student said.
No vehicular movements were allowed to enter the campus this morning as the students insist that untill the #7,000 registration fee is removed.
All our efforts to reach out to the polytechnic PRO prove abortive and as at the time of gathering this report, the students were still at the school gate chanting solidarity songs.
