A member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Oredo West Constituency, Richard Osaro Edosa, has urged Nigerians to remain committed to peace, unity and active participation in the democratic process as the nation marks Democracy Day.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the occasion, Edosa, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly, described Democracy Day as a celebration of the resilience of Nigerians and the country’s collective journey towards a more prosperous and united future.
The lawmaker noted that democracy can only thrive when the voices of citizens are heard, their rights protected and their aspirations reflected in governance.
According to him, the occasion provides an opportunity for Nigerians to renew their commitment to nation-building and the strengthening of democratic values.
“Today, we celebrate the enduring spirit of democracy, the resilience of our people, and the collective journey toward a more prosperous and united nation,” he stated.
Edosa stressed the need for citizens to actively engage in the democratic process, saying sustainable development can only be achieved when Nigerians play their roles in promoting accountability, peace and good governance.
He also paid tribute to individuals and groups whose sacrifices helped sustain democratic rule in the country, describing them as heroes whose contributions continue to inspire future generations.
“I salute the courage and sacrifices of those who have contributed to the growth of our democracy and encourage every Nigerian to continue playing their part in strengthening our democratic institutions,” he said.
The lawmaker further called for collective efforts towards building a nation where justice, opportunity and progress are accessible to all citizens regardless of background or social status.
Edosa expressed optimism about Nigeria’s democratic future, urging citizens to remain hopeful and united in the pursuit of national development and social harmony.
He concluded by congratulating Nigerians on the Democracy Day celebration and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that advance democratic governance and improve the welfare of the people.
