President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to head a newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
This department, announced by Trump on Tuesday, is designed to “dismantle Government Bureaucracy,” cut excessive regulations, and streamline federal agencies.
In his statement, Trump emphasised that the initiative aligns with his administration’s “Save America Movement,” aiming to reduce wasteful expenditures and boost productivity within the federal government.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump wrote, emphasizing the potential of DOGE to become a transformative force akin to the “Manhattan Project.”
Musk, known for his advocacy for efficiency and transparency, commented on the initiative by pledging that all department actions would be publicly posted. “Anytime the public thinks we are cutting something important or not cutting something wasteful, just let us know!” Musk wrote on social media, suggesting that transparency and public engagement will be core tenets of DOGE’s operations.
He also mentioned plans to create a “leaderboard” to highlight wasteful spending, adding, “This will be both extremely tragic and extremely entertaining.”
The department’s work is slated to conclude by July 4, 2026, aligning with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
