The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that Nigeria’s security challenges will be overcome under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning politicians against politicising insecurity for personal gain.
Umahi made the remarks on Thursday during the official flag-off of the Gombe-Biu Super Highway, a major segment of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Dualisation Project, in Gombe State.
Addressing stakeholders at the ceremony, the minister described the highway project as another demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development, national integration and economic growth.
He also commended Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as the remarkable transformation of Gombe State.
“We promise you that within the next 30 days, you will see real work on this highway,” Umahi assured residents, disclosing that the Federal Government had expanded the scope of the Gombe-Biu section following requests from the state government.
According to him, the road forms part of the nearly 700-kilometre Fourth Legacy Project stretching from Akwanga through Jos, Bauchi, Gombe and Biu to Maiduguri.
The minister revealed that the contract was awarded to [HITECH Construction Company](https://hitechconstruction.com.ng?utm_source=chatgpt.com) after emerging successful in a competitive bidding process involving several firms.
Speaking on the nation’s security situation, Umahi urged Nigerians not to weaponise insecurity for political purposes.
“Security should not be politicised. It should not be weaponised. Why is it that anytime we are trying to have an election, there is heightened insecurity?” he queried.
He expressed confidence that the Tinubu administration would restore lasting peace, citing what he described as progress in stabilising the economy and implementing key reforms.
“The boat is already on sail. We are experiencing turbulence, but the President has been able to stabilise the boat in so many directions. This insecurity will also be solved by this President,” he said.
Umahi further described Tinubu as a leader with the political will to deliver projects that had remained unrealised for decades, pointing to the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Akwanga-Maiduguri Corridor as examples.
In his remarks, Governor Yahaya hailed the project as one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the history of Gombe State, saying it would boost economic activities and support the state’s livestock and agricultural industrialisation agenda.
“The joy and excitement on the faces of our people speak for themselves. Across the state, people are celebrating because this project has come at a very important time in our history,” the governor stated.
He assured the Federal Government and contractors of adequate security throughout the construction period.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of [HITECH Construction Company](https://hitechconstruction.com.ng?utm_source=chatgpt.com), Engr. Dany Abboud, pledged that the project would be delivered to the highest international standards while creating employment opportunities for youths in host communities.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Allwell Onyesoh, called on Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration, insisting that attempts to destabilise the country through “induced insecurity” would fail.
Similarly, Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, praised the collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government in advancing critical infrastructure projects nationwide.
Traditional rulers, federal lawmakers, government officials and other stakeholders from across the country attended the flag-off ceremony, which marked the commencement of one of the Federal Government’s flagship road infrastructure projects in the North-East.
