Ahead of the primary election to produce the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Edo State governorship election, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has scheduled a meeting for today in Abuja.
The aim of the meeting is to avoid a rancorous primary that could mar the party’s chances in the election to hold in September. There are about 26 aspirants showing interest in the party ticket, but only a few have picked the party nomination and expression of Interest Forms.
The aspirants in the race include Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Prince Kassim Afegbua, Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor, Dr Ernest Umakhihe, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Honourable Anamero Sunday Dekeri, Honourable Festus Ebea, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and Prince Clem Ikanade Agba.
A party chieftain who was privy to the meeting said that the agenda of the meeting was how to push for a consensus candidate, but an aspirant (name withheld) who attended the meeting countered this by saying that consensus was not yet on the table.
