On Friday, January 5, Chief Lucky Eghosa Imasuen, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, declared his intention to run for governorship in the state during the 2024 election. He made the announcement at the All Progressive Congress (APC) State secretariat in Benin City, where he was warmly welcomed by the acting deputy chairman, Jarret Tenebe, and other party leaders.
During his declaration speech, Imasuen urged party leaders to prioritize unity and avoid sentiment in choosing a candidate for the party’s primary election. He expressed his desire to contest for the number one seat of governance in the state and solicited the support of all party members.
Imasuen also promised to tackle various issues, including insecurity, unemployment, health, and agricultural development if he is elected as governor. He emphasized the need for an experienced candidate who understands politics and governance to be chosen to lead the state.
Imasuen said: Mr. Chairman, I want to contest now for the number one seat of this State. By the grace of Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth and I know whatever God bless it will come to pass and I will win. Let us choose an experience person who understands politics, who understands the act of governance and who is ready.
”If I win and become the governor, I will tackle insecurity, unemployment, health issues. Infact, there are many areas including agricultural development.”
Jarret Tenebe, while responding to Imasuen’s declaration, praised his qualifications and expressed hope that he would be nominated as the party’s candidate for the election.
“From what you have said today, it is clear that you have what it takes to rule the State. APC is the only party that has shown it is of the people. A party that believe in the people”
Chief Imasuen had served as the Deputy Governor of Edo State in the 18-month reign of Professor Oserheimen Osunbor as Governor from May 2007 to November 2008.
