The Edo State House of Assembly has received the 2026 Supplementary Appropriation Bill sent by the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The Supplementary Appropriation Bill, which was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Musa Ikhilor, was read on the floor of the House by the Clerk of the Assembly, Alhaji Yahaya Omogbai.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Yekini Idaiye, directed the Clerk of the House to schedule consideration of the bill for a later date.
The House also deliberated on a bill seeking to establish the Edo State Emergency Management Agency at its second reading.
Leading the debate, the Majority Leader and member representing Esan South-East Constituency, Mr Sunny Ojiezele, urged members to support the bill because of its importance in mitigating the effects of natural disasters, including fire outbreaks, desertification, and other human-induced disasters.
Also contributing, the member representing Akoko-Edo II Constituency, Hon. Donald Okogbe; the member representing Esan North-East II Constituency, Hon. Maria Edeko; the Minority Leader and member representing Egor Constituency, Hon. Natasha Osawaru; and the member representing Oredo West Constituency, Hon. Richard Edosa, also lent their voices in support of the proposed legislation.
Rounding off deliberations on the bill, the Speaker, Prince Yekini Idaiye, said it was practically impossible to put an end to natural disasters.
He, however, maintained that the passage of the bill would, no doubt, provide succour for victims of natural disasters and help ameliorate their plight.
He thereafter referred the bill to the House Committee on Environment and Sustainability with a directive to submit its report to the House within two weeks for further legislative input.
In another development, the Speaker urged members of the House, professional bodies and organisations to support people suffering from arthritis as the world marks World Arthritis Day.
He gave an assurance that the House would always play its role in improving health facilities in the state, and further advised people suffering from the disease to always follow medical advice.
