The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has called for unity among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, emphasising the need for collective efforts to foster development.
Speaking at a New Year gathering held for party leaders and members in Benin on Saturday, Idahosa urged stakeholders to support Governor Monday Okpebholo in delivering on his promises to the people of Edo State.
“The purpose of this meeting is to bring all political actors together in unity,” Idahosa stated.
“Development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. As we step into 2025, it is crucial for us to rally together, setting aside differences, to move the party and state forward.”
Reflecting on the APC’s victory in the 2024 governorship election, which ended the tenure of the previous ruling party, the deputy governor expressed gratitude and stressed the importance of maintaining unity to consolidate these gains.
Acknowledging lingering divisions within the party, Idahosa appealed to aggrieved members to set aside grievances and prioritise the progress of both the party and the state. “It is high time we focused on unity, especially across the seven Local Government Areas in Edo South. A united APC will strengthen the state’s administration and ensure we deliver on our promises to the people,” he added.
Former Deputy Governor and APC leader in Edo South, Lucky Imasuen, echoed this sentiment, urging warring factions within the party to reconcile for the sake of the state’s development. “Let us not create confusion in the party but work together to build a better Edo State,” Imasuen appealed.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a former APC governorship candidate, reinforced the need for unity, stating that disunity would no longer be tolerated within the party. “The APC succeeded in taking power because we were united. Now, we must remain united to ensure the current administration delivers good governance,” Ize-Iyamu said.
He further warned against actions that could disrupt party cohesion, such as spreading falsehoods and engaging in backbiting, and called for collaboration to ensure Edo residents benefit from the APC-led government’s policies.
