Edo State Chapter of the Labour Party on Wednesday officially kicked off its campaign council in preparation for the upcoming September 21 governorship election. The establishment of the council signifies the party’s strong determination and strategic planning to secure victory in the forthcoming election.
Bishop Sam Omede has been appointed as the Director General of the Barrister Olumide Akpata Governorship Campaign Council. Additionally, several essential sub-committees have been formed to provide support for Akpata’s governorship aspirations.
Expressing his enthusiasm and confidence, Barrister Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the party’s campaign. He emphasized the credibility and expertise of the council members, highlighting their loyalty and strategic capabilities as crucial to a successful election campaign.
Akpata emphasized the challenges on the journey to the government house and stressed the need for individuals experienced in politics and campaigning. He also underscored the significance of Bishop Sam Omede’s qualities, making him an excellent choice for the campaign’s Director General. With coordinators in all 18 local government areas, the Labour Party is well-prepared to emerge victorious on September 21.
He said: “The journey to the government house is challenging. We need individuals experienced in politics and campaigning. Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, the Labour Party Chairman in Edo State, urged party members to put aside their differences and unite for a common goal. He emphasized the importance of supporting Barrister Olumide Akpata to ensure a better living standard for every Edo citizen. Ogbaloi affirmed the party’s focus on defending their votes and mobilizing more support.
According to him: “We want to assure you that Bar Olumide Akpata is poised to change the living standard of every Edo man for the better. We cannot waste the efforts of our candidate, and allow PDP or APC to continue in Osadebe Avenue.
“It is in that respect that I solicit with you that we cannot afford to begin to fight ourselves inside, deploy the energy outside and garner more members for our party. And ensure that our votes are defended most particularly. The ills we suffered, especially in the last election was that our votes were stolen.
“Let’s defend our votes first. We have resolved that no single vote will leave us, we must protect our votes. The first thing is that we will be able to cooperate, listen to ourselves and work together so that we can achieve our goals.”

He highlighted the Labour Party’s commitment to improving the living conditions in Edo State and their determination to change the current narrative of hardship in Nigeria.
“We are here to sell our message, and our message is that there is a need to have a change of landlord. We have had an APC landlord, and we have also had a PDP landlord. Let’s try the Labour Party landlord and see the difference. Our logo speaks for us, our party stands for the people. Our people are suffering, things are more difficult in Nigeria today. We want to change the narrative.” He added.
