Education took centre stage in Oredo West on Friday as Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard, Member Representing Oredo West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, commissioned the newly reconstructed administrative block of Edokpolor Grammar School, Benin City, reaffirming his commitment to sustained investment in the education sector.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard described education as the foundation of success, stressing that it must be treated with utmost seriousness. He explained that his interventions in the sector are deliberate and firmly aligned with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda, which he noted continues to guide his approach to grassroots development.
According to the lawmaker, education remains a core pillar of his legislative priorities.
“My tripod stand agenda includes education, health, security and youth empowerment. Because education is part of my agenda, anything that concerns education is a priority for me,” he stated.
Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard further explained that his development philosophy mirrors that of the Edo State Government, emphasising that the SHINE Agenda is far more than a slogan.
“Every letter in SHINE represents something. E is Education, I is Infrastructure, N is Natural Resources, H is Health and S is Solid Minerals. These are the keys to development,” he said.
He assured constituents that development is a continuous process and pledged to remain steadfast in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Oredo West.
“Development is never too much. As long as the desire to develop my constituency is there, I will continue to work,” he affirmed.
Earlier in his remarks, the Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Idiagbon Paddy Iyamu, commended Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard for his visible and impactful developmental strides. He noted that meaningful progress is achieved when political power is entrusted to leaders with a genuine passion for service.
“When power is given to someone who has a heart for the people, it is used for the development of the people. That is exactly what we are seeing in Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard,” the commissioner said, while urging constituents to continue supporting the lawmaker.
He added that the Edo State Government and the Ministry of Education were proud of the project, describing it as a clear demonstration of people-centred leadership.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Elena Omoregbe, who represented the school principal, expressed deep appreciation for the intervention, describing the reconstructed administrative block as an answer to prayers.
She recalled that the former structure was in a dangerously dilapidated condition, forcing teachers to work in constant fear.
“When it rained, we were afraid. Even when it didn’t rain, we were still afraid because the building could collapse at any time,” she said.
Mrs. Omoregbe noted that the renovation has completely transformed the school’s outlook and working environment.
“What we thought was impossible has been made possible by Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard. This project has transformed the school both inside and outside, and we are truly grateful,” she added.
In his remarks, the President of the Edokpolor Grammar School Old Students Association Worldwide, Ambassador Uyi-Morgan Imafidon, extolled Hon. Dr. Edosa Osaro Richard for his consistent developmental efforts. He also appealed for further intervention in securing accommodation for corps members or staff through the provision of a lodge.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by government officials, education stakeholders, alumni and community members, who collectively hailed the project as a major boost to teaching, learning and administrative efficiency in Oredo West.
