In response to recent accusations of financial mismanagement, Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma’s leadership has strongly denied the claims, attributing them to a campaign aimed at tarnishing the university’s image.
The Principal Assistant Registrar (Information, Communication, and Public Relations), Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, described the accusations as a “misrepresentation of facts” and “sponsored attempt to destabilise the institution.”
According to Aladenika, the university’s newly appointed Governing Council has implemented financial strategies that align with its mandate to foster growth and stability.
He highlighted a recent council decision to consolidate idle funds by transferring them to Globus Bank, which offers a 15% interest rate, projected to generate over ₦100 million in interest. These funds are expected to help alleviate some of the university’s financial pressures, allowing for enhanced operations and welfare programmes.
Aladenika urged stakeholders to disregard the allegations, emphasising the council’s commitment to transparency and accountability. “We implore all members of our community to support the council’s efforts rather than be swayed by baseless reports,” he said.
Additionally, Aladenika called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) AAU Chapter to foster a collaborative environment that prioritises the university’s progress. Responding to a press release by the union, Aladenika said, “ASUU’s concerns are valid, but mutual support is essential for collective advancement.
The council has inherited numerous issues, including unpaid salaries, promotion backlogs, and non-conducive working conditions. However, it is actively addressing these challenges.”
He acknowledged that while the council has only been in place for three months, significant strides have already been made. Under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Omo-Ehijele Frank Odafen, the council has overseen staff appraisals, promotions, and reinstatements of previously removed personnel, with on-going efforts to resolve grievances through a Truth and Reconciliation Panel that has reviewed numerous petitions.
Aladenika concluded by expressing optimism about the university’s future, noting that the council enjoys broad support from the majority of staff and students.
“Let’s unite to build AAU into a stronger institution instead of succumbing to divisive efforts. Together, we can realise the full potential of this university,” he added.
