The Edo LIONS Club has initiated discussions with the Oredo Local Government Council to establish a partnership aimed at delivering crucial eye care services to the community.
The Club is preparing a 3-day program in commemoration of World Sight Day, during which they plan to offer free eye tests, distribute free eyeglasses, and conduct cataract surgeries for up to 1,000 individuals.
Representing the Edo LIONS Club at the meeting, Lion Isaiah Jacob, speaking on behalf of the Club’s Coordinator, Lion Enabulele Henry, expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Oredo Local Government, Dr. Tom Obaseki, for granting the Club an audience on short notice.
Jacob emphasised that the LIONS Club, a non-partisan, service-oriented humanitarian group, is committed to positively impacting the lives of people in the communities it serves.
He further stated that the Club is seeking not only financial support but also a venue within Oredo for the upcoming World Sight Day event.
In response, Dr. Obaseki expressed his satisfaction with the objectives of the LIONS Club and praised their dedication to humanitarian service. He emphasized that the visit was timely, as it aligned with his vision to “internationalise Oredo” and positively impact lives through initiatives based on global best practices.
Dr. Obaseki expressed his excitement for the upcoming program and stressed the importance of proper information and education to maximize its benefits.
The Oredo Local Government Chairman pledged the Council’s support for the initiative, offering venues through a collaborative effort with the primary health care department.
He assured the LIONS Club that Oredo Council would remain a reliable partner in ensuring the success of the project and future community-oriented efforts.
The event, which aligns with the global theme of World Sight Day, will provide much-needed eye care services to underprivileged residents in the Oredo community.
