Newswatch Plus Limited will unveil a new book celebrating the life, courage and journalistic legacy of Dele Giwa, the founding editor-in-chief of Newswatch magazine, as Nigeria marks 40 years since his assassination.
The book, titled Dele Giwa’s Granite Journalism, will be presented on October 19 at the Kessington Adebutu Auditorium of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
The publication honours Giwa’s enduring place in Nigerian journalism and recalls the impact of his work on investigative reporting and press freedom.
Giwa, one of Nigeria’s most influential journalists, was killed on October 19, 1986, by a parcel bomb delivered to his residence in Lagos. His assassination shocked the country and remains one of the most notorious attacks on the Nigerian press.
Four decades later, his death continues to raise questions about press freedom, accountability and the safety of journalists in the country.
