The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has expressed its profound condolences to the family of Sir Jonathan Benaebi Eselemo, a veteran journalist who recently passed away.
In statement by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Festus Alenkhe on Tuesday, a copy of which was made available to Uptown Press, described the death of Sir Eselemo as a significant loss to the journalism profession, especially in Edo State.
According to him, Sir Eselemo was a prominent figure in the media industry, and his passing has left a great void in the ranks of old stock journalists in the state.
Comrade Festus Alenkhe went on to recall Sir Eselemo’s remarkable contributions to the journalism profession, highlighting the worthy legacy he left behind. Sir Eselemo distinguished himself as a talented journalist and was a role model to many aspiring journalists.
As the family of Sir Eselemo mourns his passing, the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists offered its prayers and support. Comrade Festus Alenkhe prayed that God would give the family the fortitude to bear the loss and that Sir Eselemo’s soul would rest in peace.
The statement reads: “I write to express the condolence of the leadership Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ, Edo State Council to the children and all the family members of our late veteran journalist, Sir Jonathan Benaebi Eselemo.
“The demise of Eselemo has further depleted the ranks of the old stock of journalists who had sacrificed all it takes to get the media job done.
“Benaebi Eselemo, as he was fondly called during his days as a reporter with the Nigeria Television Authority made his mark and left a worth legacy in the journalism profession.
“He was a foremost reporter in Benin City, Edo State and a role model that inspired young ones into the journalism profession.
“He remains a great mentor to many journalists of today, including myself as the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council.
“His love and commitment to duty was worthy of emulation.
“O pray to God Almighty to give his soul an eternal resting place and grant his family and associates the fortitude to bear the loss”
