The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Asue-Ogie Mandate Recovery Group have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare their candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, as the rightful winner of the September 21 governorship election.

During a protest held at the INEC headquarters in Aduwawa, Benin City, on Wednesday, party chieftains, alongside loyal supporters, expressed their dissatisfaction with the current results of the election.
They demanded that INEC restore what they described as Ighodalo’s “stolen mandate,” arguing that their candidate secured the majority of lawful votes cast.

Speaking on behalf of the group, a party leader stated that the electoral commission had failed to properly reflect the will of the people in its declaration of the results.
“We are here to reclaim our mandate. The people of Edo have spoken, and they have chosen Dr. Asue Ighodalo. We will not rest until justice is done,” he said.

The protest, which saw a large turnout of PDP supporters, was peaceful but charged with emotion. Protesters carried placards with inscriptions demanding fairness and transparency from INEC.
Party members also reiterated their belief that Dr. Ighodalo’s victory had been unjustly denied.

INEC is yet to respond to the protest or issue any official statement regarding the claims by the PDP and the Asue-Ogie Mandate Recovery Group.
