As Nigerians geared up for the 2023 presidential and national assembly election, political crisis has continued to worsened in Edo State and major parts of the country following an attempted murder of Lawal Samuel Omorogbe, a member of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by thugs of the opposition party, All Progressive Congress(APC) in the state.
Omorogbe, a PDP grassroots mobiliser in Ward 10, in Ugbowo was on 1st of March 2022 allegedly attacked at his resident by thugs suspected to be loyal to All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omorogbe who’s whereabouts cannot not be ascertained as at when filling this report is said to be on the run as the thugs bent on taking his life.
A visit to his resident indicate that his family members had also fled their home due to the thugs keeping vigil at his resident
An eyewitnesses told Edo City News that the APC thugs carrying dangerous weapons such as axes, machetes and cudgels were said to have stormed Omorogbe house in Ugbowo, to unleashed terror on the PDP member
“It was like a war zone. About 20 APC thugs invaded Omorogbe house chanting war songs, threatening to kill Omorogbe who is a strong PDP grassroots mobiliser in Ward 10.

“His immediate family members had been displaced ever since the incident occurred as nobody know the whereabout of his family who had also fled for their dear life.
“The APC thugs had vowed to continue to keep vigil in the house until Omorogbe is taking off the way before the election, the eyewitnesses told Edo City News on a condition of anonymity
The attacks on PDP members by APC thugs across the country were direct attempts to suppress the legitimate campaigns of PDP across the country due APC at the Federal level
There are reports of coordinated attacks on members of our great party, the PDP by APC thugs
“I condemn these attacks entirely because they are attempts to scuttle the lawful right of Nigerians to assemble peacefully and a direct attempt to suppress the legitimate campaigns of the PDP in the State
He said the attack was not just a threat to the nation’s democracy but an indication that some elements were still bent on sabotaging and undermining the success of next year’s general elections.
“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to call on their supporters and members to order and to ensure that campaigns, just as with the elections themselves, are kept free, fair and safe.”
