The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed that Mrs. Epelle-Asemota Bridgitte Osayuki remains its candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communication, Agada Abuh Theophilus, said the NDC duly submitted Osayuki’s name, photograph and credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the Electoral Act.

The party, however, alleged that an error occurred during INEC’s publication of candidates’ particulars, leading to Osayuki’s name being displayed alongside the photograph and credentials of another aspirant.

The NDC maintained that only candidates officially sponsored by political parties and whose particulars are submitted to INEC can validly emerge as candidates, insisting that Osayuki remains its duly nominated flagbearer for Edo South.

It called on INEC to explain how the discrepancy occurred, noting that the responsibility for publishing candidates’ details lies with the electoral commission.

The party also condemned attempts to politicise the issue along ethnic lines, stressing that it is a national political party open to all Nigerians regardless of ethnicity or religion.

According to the NDC, Osayuki is qualified to contest the election, citing her years of service in the Edo State civil service, previous political involvement, and leadership roles in professional and labour organisations.

The party urged critics to focus on issues rather than ethnicity or gender, adding that concerns arising from its primaries are being addressed through an internal reconciliation process.

It further disclosed that a national reconciliation committee has been set up to resolve disputes from the primaries and appealed to members and supporters to remain united as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
