Four operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, are reportedly in police custody in connection with the murder of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, a political associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Oyeyemi was killed on September 13, 2026, at Mayfair Park in Ile-Ife, shortly after attending a peace meeting organised for members of the Accord Party.

The meeting was reportedly convened by the Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele.

Following the killing, security operatives commenced investigations, leading to the identification and arrest of several suspects.

A senior security source told newsmen that police investigations had led to the apprehension of five Amotekun operatives alongside other suspects in connection with the murder.

“Efforts intensified by police have led to the arrest of five Amotekun Corps and other suspects in relation to the murder of Emir in Ile-Ife. They should parade them very soon,” the source said.

An associate of the deceased also alleged that three of the attackers wore Amotekun camouflage during the attack.

However, the Amotekun Corps has disputed the description of the operatives’ presence in police custody as an arrest.

The Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu, said the operatives were handed over to the police to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Speaking with InsightMedia on Monday, Idowu said the officers were attached to former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Nurudeen Wakil Alowonle.

“Yes, they are currently with the police as part of the ongoing investigation. They were handed over by the Network to support the ongoing investigation,” Idowu said.

The police also confirmed that arrests had been made in connection with Emir’s murder but stopped short of confirming the involvement of Amotekun personnel.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said: “We are conducting a series of investigations; part of it is the death of one Emir. Some people have been arrested in connection with that. I can’t specifically say if any of Amotekun’s personnel are involved.”

Meanwhile, associates of the deceased, who were allegedly linked to the Aye confraternity, had reportedly threatened retaliatory action following the killing, heightening concerns over a possible escalation of violence.

The conflicting accounts over whether the Amotekun operatives were arrested or voluntarily handed over underscore the need for a thorough investigation to establish those responsible for the killing and the circumstances surrounding the presence of the security personnel at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
