The Edo State Government on Friday officially appointed Engineer Lukman Akemokue as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, a prestigious traditional title in the Etsako East Local Government Area.
The letter of appointment was presented during a formal ceremony at the Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs’ conference hall in Benin City.
Presiding over the event, the Commissioner for Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo, handed over the official appointment letter to Engr. Akemokue.
The Okuokpellagbe of Okpella is a significant traditional role, responsible for upholding the customs, traditions, and leadership of the Okpella community.
Engr. Akemokue’s appointment reflects the state government’s continued recognition of traditional institutions as pivotal in fostering unity, peace, and development within local communities.
In his remarks, Commissioner Osaigbovo expressed confidence in Engr. Akemokue’s capacity to lead the people of Okpella, noting that the Edo State Government values the role of traditional rulers in promoting stability and progress.
Engr. Akemokue succeeds the previous Okuokpellagbe, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Okpella kingdom. His appointment has been widely received with optimism by the people of Okpella, who look forward to his leadership in furthering the growth and development of the community.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, and representatives of the Okpella community, who offered their congratulations and pledged their support to the new Okuokpellagbe.
