Nigeria’s Falconets were held to a goalless draw by China PR on Thursday at the Arena Sosnowiec, leaving the West Africans with just one point from two Group F matches.
Both sides created opportunities during the encounter, but neither could produce the decisive finish as the game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
The result leaves Nigeria with plenty of work to do in their final group fixture. The Falconets must beat New Caledonia to keep their knockout-stage hopes alive.
A victory could still see Nigeria finish second in Group F. The Falconets could also progress to the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams across the six groups, depending on the final standings.
The pressure is now firmly on Nigeria ahead of their final group game, with qualification no longer something they can afford to leave to chance.
The Falconets will face New Caledonia on Sunday, September 13, in a decisive encounter as they continue their push for a place in the knockout stage.
