Federal Polytechnic Nekede takes E-Learning to greater heights

Engr. Dr. Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa (FNSE), Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, has driven his passion for Information Technology Communication (ICT) to the next level, since assuming office as the 8th substantive Rector of the Institution.

First, the Information Technology Communication (ICT) unit was upgraded to a Directorate with the Appointment of a Director, providing the Internet solution/ bandwidth was adequately improved to 1STM 1, leveraging on MTN BTS Terminal closest to the Institution via fibre optics to the different termination locations/areas of need to ensure complete wifi coverage, thereby making Federal Polytechnic Nekede a Smart Campus by providing a free Wifi Internet facility to staff, students, visitors and nearby environs.

The Smart Campus Initiatives (SCI) upgraded the Computer Based Center (CBT) to 2 (two) state-of-the-art CBT centres making the Institution to have two Jamb Accredited centers for UTME Examinations. And also the best CBT centre so far amongst Polytechnics in Nigeria according to the last National meeting of BURSCON held in FPNO during their site tour on the facilities around the Institution.

In the 2019/2020 Academic Session, the Institution conducted for the first time in the history of FPNO CBT Screening for HND1 Regular students discarding the outdated OMR system.

2019/ 2020 Academic Session saw the SMART PORTAL of the Institution giving access to single sign-on for all processes, screening all admitted students without their presence and provision of full biometric identity cards for all students. Ensuring and achieving the end-to-end electronic processes of the students’ life cycle in school and eliminating long queues, time waste and trauma which is mostly associated with manual procedures.

The Digital X-ray, the automatic and random allocation of students to X-ray facilities at different centers as part medical exercise are now automated and also Screening exercise, Medicals, online Course Registration, Time table, Result computation, Exams and Records, Transcript and final Result checking are Nobel achievements of this Administration which is embedded in the ERP.

Further more, to encourage and inspire students and staff engage in further research work, there is availability of an e-library, acquisition of plagiarism software and subjecting all publications/articles to plagiarism check to meet up with International/reputable Indexing bodies standards.

Finally, henceforth and for the purposes of transparency, all Student’s Union Elections are to be conducted through an E-voting system and all official mails/communications are to be done electronically for students and staff the Institution’s official [email protected].

With all these achievements and more, the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede is not resting on its oars, as the teams keeps exploring innovations and creative initiatives, novel projects, for high Academic standards that meets and competes favourably with International standards.
