The Federal Government has commenced the nationwide distribution of 215,000 MAMA kits to vulnerable pregnant women as part of intensified efforts to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in underserved communities.
The government is also distributing 40,000 maternal food-support packs and 40,000 newborn clothing sets to vulnerable women and families across the country.
The intervention is being implemented under the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), a Federal Government programme designed to improve access to essential maternal and newborn healthcare services.
The initiative targets underserved communities where pregnant women face significant barriers to accessing antenatal care, skilled delivery services and postnatal support.
Through the distribution of the maternal kits and other support packages, the Federal Government is seeking to remove some of the practical and financial barriers that prevent vulnerable women from accessing essential care during pregnancy and after childbirth.
The MAMII intervention forms part of broader efforts to strengthen maternal and neonatal health outcomes across Nigeria, particularly among women and families in communities with limited access to healthcare facilities and services.
The nationwide distribution is expected to provide direct support to thousands of vulnerable pregnant women while encouraging greater uptake of antenatal, delivery and postnatal care.
