The Federal Government has issued a warning to Nigerian citizens planning to travel to the United Kingdom, urging them to be cautious due to the risk of violence stemming from the recent killing of three young girls at a concert.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Monday, signed by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the government highlighted that the violence has escalated to “dangerous proportions.” This escalation has been marked by reported attacks on law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has advised Nigerians in the UK to exercise extra vigilance and implement the following safety measures: avoid political processions and protests, rallies or marches, steer clear of crowded areas and large gatherings, and maintain high levels of self-awareness and vigilance at all times.

Recent weeks have seen large and occasionally unruly demonstrations by far-right and other extra-parliamentary groups across parts of the UK. These disturbances have been further aggravated by the tragic deaths of the three young girls, fueling an anti-immigration narrative that has particularly targeted Muslim immigrants and people of color.

Last Tuesday, a large crowd of anti-Muslim protesters clashed with police in a northern English town. This followed the horrific stabbing incident in Southport, a quiet seaside town north of Liverpool, where three girls were killed, and five other children were critically wounded during an attack on a Taylor Swift-themed event on Monday. The incident has shocked the nation. Police have stated that the attack was not linked to terrorism and that the suspect was born in the UK.
