Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that the ongoing reconstruction of the failed portion of the Obadan Junction road along the Benin-Ekpoma Expressway will be completed before Christmas. This was disclosed in a statement released to Uptown Press on Friday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Governor Okpebholo, who visited the project site for the third time since his inauguration on November 12, 2024, commended the contractors for their dedication and expressed confidence that the work would be completed on schedule. He emphasised the importance of the project, noting that the road is a crucial gateway connecting the South, East, and Northern regions of Nigeria.
“It is important that this road is fixed before the festive season to ease travel for motorists. This is the third time I am personally inspecting the progress of work to ensure it is completed on time,” he said.
The Governor affirmed that his administration is aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to Edo residents. He further stated that the State government plans to appeal to the Federal Government for a refund of funds spent on the project upon completion.
“This is a Federal road, but fixing it is our priority because Edo people and travellers from across Nigeria depend on it. If completed, it will not only enhance travel convenience during the festive season but also boost the credibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party dedicated to good governance,” the Governor added.
The reconstruction of the Obadan Junction road is expected to alleviate travel difficulties and support economic activities during the busy holiday period.
