Tension gripped Ibadan on Wednesday after unknown gunmen reportedly abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power and Oyo State governorship aspirant, Bayo Adelabu, along with her twin children.
The victims were kidnapped in the Elewura area of Challenge, within Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to reports, the family members were travelling from their residence to connect with the expressway when they were ambushed and whisked away by the armed attackers.
Confirming the incident, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, disclosed that the former minister’s sister and her twin children, identified as Peter and Paul, were abducted during the early hours of Wednesday.
“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twins (Peter and Paul), were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan. The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers,” Awogboro said.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and political associates of Adelabu, who served as Minister of Power and is widely believed to be positioning for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
The latest abduction comes amid growing security concerns in the state. It follows a recent attack by suspected terrorists in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, where more than 45 pupils and their teachers were reportedly abducted.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the kidnapping, while efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators were said to be ongoing.
