An Italian-born Catholic priest, Sandro Ferretto, 55, has left the priesthood and married a Kenyan woman, Sharon Jepng’ok, after spending 12 years serving communities in Baringo County, Kenya.
Ferretto reportedly exchanged vows with Jepng’ok, a Tugen woman from Baringo South, in a traditional wedding ceremony held on September 6 at Seretion village in Kasiela.
The ceremony took place in the community where Ferretto had previously served as a parish priest during his years of pastoral service in the county.
According to The Kenyan Times, Ferretto’s decision to leave the priesthood paved the way for his marriage to Jepng’ok, marking a major personal transition after more than a decade of service to Catholic communities in Baringo.
Ferretto’s departure from the priesthood and subsequent marriage has attracted attention in the Kenyan community, particularly because of his long-standing connection with the area and his decision to marry locally.
His 12-year service in Baringo had seen him build relationships with communities across the county before he ultimately chose a different path in his personal life.
The traditional wedding at Seretion brought together the former priest, his bride and members of the local community as the couple began a new chapter together.
