Pastor Joel Adedeji, an Ogbomoso-based cleric, has recounted how his alleged involvement in money rituals brought him years of sudden wealth before his fortunes took a devastating turn, culminating in an accident that led to the amputation of his leg.

Adedeji made the revelation during an interview with BBC Yoruba, explaining that he turned to a herbalist many years ago while desperately seeking financial breakthrough and a better life.

According to the pastor, the herbalist instructed him to have sexual intercourse with a woman of his choice and use a piece of cloth to wipe her private parts afterwards.

He said he followed the instructions and began to experience an influx of money, prompting the herbalist to demand further rituals.

“The baba said I should look for someone I like and have intercourse with her and use a cloth to clean her private part once I am done. After I did that, truly money came, honestly, then he asked me to bring more,” Adedeji recounted.

The pastor said the herbalist later warned him that, despite the wealth he would enjoy, he would never be able to buy a car or build a house with the money.

Adedeji disclosed that he enjoyed the wealth for about four to five years before his life took a dramatic turn.

Recounting the incident that led to the loss of his leg, the cleric said he was knocked down by a car that belonged to him but was being driven by someone he had helped to purchase the vehicle.

He said the accident left him hospitalised and that his leg was amputated before he regained consciousness the following day.

“Before I knew it, I got hit and landed in the hospital, and before I woke up the next day, my leg had been amputated,” he said.

Although Adedeji linked his past pursuit of ritual wealth to the painful experiences that followed, his account reflects his personal interpretation of the events.

Drawing lessons from his experience, Adedeji urged young Nigerians to resist the pressure to become wealthy overnight.

He advised youths to embrace patience and remain committed to legitimate means of earning a living rather than seeking shortcuts to riches.
