Controversy is trailing popular Fuji star Saheed Osupa after he openly declared that he uses “juju” to enhance his success, igniting fierce reactions across religious and social circles.
The singer, born Saheed Okunola, made the startling revelation during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of veteran actor Fatai Odua on March 30, 2026.
In a now-viral video, Osupa was seen advising his backup singers to embrace voodoo practices to improve their performance, jokingly listing items they should use while insisting it was not about evil but personal advancement.
Doubling down, the Fuji icon dismissed suggestions to deny involvement in supernatural practices, stating: “Why should I lie? I didn’t use it to harm anyone. I’m only trying to progress.”
He further revealed his routine of paying homage to Ifa, questioning whether conventional means like medication could deliver success, and controversially claimed that “everybody practises juju”—whether openly or secretly.
The remarks have since triggered backlash, particularly from Islamic clerics and followers who expressed disappointment, given the singer’s large Muslim fanbase.
One cleric, identified as Alagusiy, urged Osupa to abandon such beliefs and return to God, insisting his success was divinely ordained—not a product of voodoo. Another commentator, Uwais Lukman, questioned the singer’s religious standing, while a third, General Tom, accused him of promoting practices that undermine faith.
Amid the criticism, Osupa has refused to retract his statement, maintaining that he respects both the Bible and the Quran but frowning at what he described as “eye service” among religious adherents.
