A college student in Taiwan has reportedly lost both legs and received no insurance compensation after an alleged attempt to defraud insurance companies in a scheme investigators described as both shocking and self-destructive.

According to reports, the student allegedly devised an elaborate plan to secure more than $1 million in insurance payouts by making it appear he had suffered severe frostbite while riding a motorcycle in freezing conditions.

Investigators said the student allegedly immersed his feet in a bucket of dry ice for about 10 hours, causing catastrophic tissue damage that eventually led to the amputation of both legs.

The plan was reportedly to file insurance claims by presenting the injuries as the result of exposure to extreme weather during a motorcycle journey.

However, authorities became suspicious after examining the injuries.

Investigators reportedly discovered several inconsistencies in the student’s account, including a strikingly symmetrical pattern of damage on both legs. Experts also noted that the injuries appeared to stop precisely along the lines where socks had been worn, a finding they said was inconsistent with naturally occurring frostbite sustained during a motorcycle ride.

The evidence allegedly pointed instead to deliberate and prolonged exposure to an artificial freezing source.

Following an investigation, authorities reportedly concluded that the injuries had been intentionally inflicted as part of an insurance fraud scheme.

Rather than receiving the anticipated multimillion-dollar payout, the student was reportedly convicted, denied any insurance compensation and left to face the lifelong consequences of losing both legs.

The case has attracted widespread attention internationally, with many observers describing it as a grim example of how the pursuit of quick wealth can lead to devastating and irreversible consequences.

What allegedly began as a bid for a financial windfall ultimately ended in permanent disability, criminal penalties and a future dramatically altered by a single decision.
