Nigerian cleric, Dolapo Lawal, has sparked reactions online after criticising the growing wave of migration among Nigerians, describing the desperate rush to relocate abroad as “modern slavery.”

Speaking on wealth creation and the realities of life overseas, Pastor Lawal argued that many Nigerians relocating to countries like the United Kingdom are merely struggling to survive rather than building real wealth.

According to him, most migrants abroad take up low-paying care jobs and endure difficult living conditions despite the glamorous perception often projected on social media.

The pastor lamented that some Nigerians even sell off valuable properties at home only to relocate abroad and live in rented apartments while battling economic hardship.

“How many people you know that are in the UK who are billionaires? They go there to survive. They don’t go there to be rich,” he said.

Lawal further maintained that Nigeria remains one of the easiest places to build massive wealth for those who are focused, connected and willing to develop value.

He stressed that many Nigerians abroad are not refusing to send money home out of selfishness, but because they are financially overwhelmed and struggling to stay afloat themselves.

The cleric encouraged young Nigerians to concentrate on self-development, discovering their talents and creating opportunities locally rather than blindly chasing relocation.
