The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of a planned bandit attack on schools in the state, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence indicating any imminent security threat.
The clarification followed the circulation of reports alleging that a warning notice had been pasted on the wall of a school, claiming that bandits were planning coordinated attacks on educational institutions in Lagos.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, urged parents, guardians, school authorities and residents to remain calm, stressing that the command had found no verified threat to schools or any part of the state.
While noting that all security concerns are treated seriously, the police chief disclosed that he had ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of enhanced security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations.
According to him, police operatives, working alongside other security agencies, have been deployed to safeguard schools, critical infrastructure and communities across the state.
“The Command wishes to emphasise that Lagos State remains secure and that every lawful measure is being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the state,” he said.
Fatai warned that the police would not tolerate any attempt by bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten public safety, adding that anyone found spreading fear or engaging in activities capable of causing panic would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The commissioner also called on residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information, describing security as a collective responsibility.
He urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency channels as authorities continue efforts to maintain peace and security across Lagos State.
