France captain, Kylian Mbappé, has fiercely hit back at Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after she allegedly launched a barrage of racist insults at him following France’s victory over Paraguay in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The diplomatic row erupted after Les Bleus knocked Paraguay out of the tournament on 5 July, triggering a controversial reaction from Amarilla, a member of Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party.

Reacting on Monday, the France captain reportedly described Amarilla as “a despicable woman” and declared that she was unfit to represent the Paraguayan people, accusing her of disgracing the office she occupies.
The exchange quickly escalated after Amarilla released an open letter denying that her comments were racist. She instead accused Mbappe of attacking her because she is a woman, demanded a public apology, and threatened legal action against the French forward on grounds of alleged gender-based violence.
Her response has fuelled even more controversy, with critics arguing that her earlier comments amounted to racial abuse despite her denial.
