Napoli secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Parma in a tense Serie A match at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
However, the victory was overshadowed by a shocking incident involving Napoli’s winger David Neres, who was robbed at gunpoint shortly after the match.
In a game that saw Napoli’s star striker Victor Osimhen absent from the lineup, newly signed Romelu Lukaku made his presence felt by scoring one of the two goals that sealed the win for the home side.
The match kept fans on the edge of their seats, with Napoli narrowly edging out Parma to claim all three points.
Tragically, the post-match atmosphere took a disturbing turn when David Neres was attacked by two gunmen.
Uptown Press learned that, the assailants, riding a motorcycle, approached Neres’ car, which was parked outside the stadium, and shattered the window.
They then proceeded to rob the Brazilian player at gunpoint, stealing personal belongings from the shocked footballer.
Neres later confirmed the incident on Instagram, issuing an apology to fans who had been waiting for him outside the stadium.
He stated, “David would like to say sorry to the fans who were waiting outside for him. While trying to leave the stadium after the game, two men on a motorcycle smashed the car and robbed him at gunpoint.”
Napoli’s management has yet to release an official statement regarding the event, but it is expected that security measures will be re-evaluated following this alarming episode.
Despite the unsettling news, Napoli’s victory over Parma keeps them in strong contention in the Serie A standings, with Lukaku quickly becoming a key player for the team.
However, the club and its fans are left grappling with the unsettling reality that one of their own was targeted in such a violent manner.
