Napoli, the Serie A champions, have recently announced their intention to take legal action against an Italian toy store over a doll that they claim bears an uncanny resemblance to their player, Victor Osimhen.
The doll’s features, which include a protective mask with the number 9 on it, a light blue jersey, and a blond tuft of curly hair, have made it go viral on social media.
However, Napoli released a statement on Thursday evening confirming that the doll is not authorized by the club or Osimhen and is therefore breaching his image rights.
Napoli plans to take the company to court, which is yet another contentious situation around Osimhen that the club would have happily avoided at this time when his contract extension is in doubt and his rapport with the club remains frosty over their TikTok videos.
