NDC Ratifies Primary Election Results, Moves to Reconcile Aggrieved Aspirants Ahead of 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ratified and endorsed the results of its nationwide primary elections, while unveiling plans to intensify reconciliation efforts aimed at strengthening party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached during the party’s 2nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, which brought together the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, members of the National Working Committee, state chairmen, stakeholders, and delegates from across the country.

According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, NEC reviewed the outcome of the recently concluded primary elections and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise across the federation.

The committee commended electoral committees, screening and appeal panels, party officials, aspirants, volunteers, and supporters for their roles in ensuring what it described as a credible and successful primary election process.

While acknowledging challenges encountered in some areas, NEC reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness.

To further consolidate unity within the party, the committee resolved to intensify reconciliation efforts and stakeholder engagement across the country to address grievances arising from the primaries and strengthen cohesion among members.

In a move aimed at deepening transparency and broadening participation, NEC also approved plans to introduce electronic voting in future congresses and primary elections. The party further directed the enhancement of its digital membership registration and data management systems to improve efficiency and accountability.

The meeting equally resolved to step up grassroots mobilisation, expand membership nationwide, and strengthen party structures from the ward level to the national level as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.

NEC also reviewed developments within the nation’s electoral landscape and reiterated the party’s commitment to pursuing democratic, legal, and constitutional means in the defence of electoral justice, fairness, and citizens’ participation in the democratic process.

The meeting ended with party leaders expressing optimism about the future of the NDC and reaffirming their determination to build what they described as a stronger, more credible, and nationally accepted political movement committed to good governance, national development, and democratic renewal.
